Spectacular proof of Diogo Ventura that I got a brilliant fifth place in general and Marco Cruz that finished second in the veterans category.

To begin our congratulations season 2013, where was your debut. Were
Pending these results?
AM: Thank you so much. No, even crossed my mind these victories very least be competing at this level. I always thought it was not technically evolved in running and cycling.
When youth ages had minimum 800m, European to, but you were not discarded by beings from Benfica or Sporting, You can tell the story?
AM: It is a very sad story. No national youth track, in 800 meters, I second with a time of 1'58m. I was very happy, it had direct access to European, Mas was briefly. As a modest team (Lowland Sports Union) was an athlete of Benfica, who had been in third, making European.
What is your sporting past?
AM: Practiced athletics at a young age since started, juvenile and half season of Junior . Many
victories within the north, many troubles and very primitive training. Once stopped training for work, decrease of motorcycle and also the injustice of national.
Been stopped 10 year old , just started a little more than three, where to 4km in 30minutes and still stop, was already a victory. After, gradually, with much suffering was improving the pace. Now I do not stop, was a victory. The years were walking and I was a bit more training. Then I bought a bike duathlon to do because we had heard of the sport, but it was only for practice Sunday.
I returned to the team Felgueiras, who welcomed me with open arms, which helped the juniors to do speedwork. And as the tempos were strong I was increasing my performance. Then I had the opportunity to meet Rogério Ferreira Matos and Hugo were the athletes who helped me to know us Elite family and Prof.. Urbino Saints.
When you estreaste the national championship in Torres Vedras which were your
greater difficulties?
AM: It was all! It was a pain that I had no memory, because he would have only five months of workout. It was too little to tackle those "machines" .A experience was almost nil because he had only done sprint duathlon Famalicão the distance. However, was also failure on my part, because they should not have let the group take off in first race. Stand alone and it was not easy…
There was an athlete who brought you sleep, because you said you had never seen a
cyclist to let you back this way. You can count on this episode?
AM: It was precisely in the national championship and called Ricardo Gouveia! Well I tried to go on his wheel but discharged myself in now and then and had already downloaded the pack. Yet get the front alone. I preached on tarmac, he would have never seen such…
When Prof.. Urbino Santos spoke to you and told you you were a "super athlete" the
you thought?
AM: I smiled and thought "Man must be a fool" but this great Lord of the sport Prof. Urbino Saints, the third time he spoke to me with just the test of athletics and cycling, told me he was going to win the duathlon famalicão. And I smiled…
You were often accused of only secondary evidence in win, victory in
Santarém was the answer?
AM: No doubt, Santarém was the icing on the cake but while talking to me do not speak other. Who analyze the picture of victory is very well characterized what was me at the time and what happened at the time 2013.
How does a typical week of your training?
AM: Very simple, work from 8.30 until 19.00 in the company Pinheiro & Ribeiro Mat. Const. Ltd., and training from 19:30 to finish alone. It is not easy, is a struggle every day and a loss for the family. To emphasize the help of James Madureira and Pedro Santos some drills that are very important.
The next year the World Cup is in Pontevedra, which your
expectations?
AM: Top 10 was already very good. My athleticism is still far from my idea. Let's go
train a day after another. The motto was chosen in recent months and has resulted.
What is the most curious episode a competitive level this year?
AM: Positive Pela, duathlon Agueda I won. Was leading a fall and almost threw it all away, but an athlete of the house called Ricardo, stopped to render assistance. It was an attitude of excellence and a great athlete.
Pela negative, duatlo of Vizela. After the first round of btt ( I knew they were two laps) the bike organization, that ran in front of me, sends spend the tab toward the park transition. After being in the PT that told me is that they were two laps.
There had to ride the bike again and go for another round. In the end I won the race with nearly two minutes clear of the second.

In the coming days 15,16 and 17 November the Portuguese Ski-Montanialism will do its first stage, with a view to participating in some tests of Scarpa World Cup 2014 and also in the European Championship of the sport that will be held in Andorra (Arcalis), of 9 a 13 February next year. The internship will take place in the Italian locality of Cervinia and US Elite Zé Teixeira athlete will be one of the summoned.

Proof Santarém (penultimate race counting for the cup from Portugal PORterra) had the best national duatletas. Disputed in Santarém had as main favorite the Olympic Duarte Marques who competed at home. After a tactic match, It was in the course of BTT that it was able to open an advantage to manage the last race with great pressure from the Alepiarça Eagles athlete and was present in the Jo of Beijing in 2008. After several wins this year (just didn't overcome two for disqualification and mechanical damage) This victory in a test, where all the best of the sport were present, It was the statement of the athlete who represents the tribraga. With the World 2014 to be disputed in Spain, It will certainly be a value to take into account.
In the same event, Highlight for 8th place in general (3ºsub23) by Renato Teixeira, that proved to be very complete in any triathlon variable. Jose Teixeira (28º senior) and João Ferreira (8º Veterano) closed the accounts in which he awarded Braga's team in a great 3rd place collective to 5 Sporting seconds.

The sailor James Mitchell is ranked second in Europe Quebramar cup Cascais, a test to tell the criteria for selecting the Laser Standard class. The competition away, surprised the competition with the level imposed on the seas of Cascais. After a first day I was 4th (6+4+4), was the second and third days we managed an excellent second place and first among the Portuguese. Still not great spin, It demonstrated why he is one of the most talented Portuguese sailors.

The paraciclismo athlete Ricardo Gomes won the last stage of the Cup of Portugal in BTT held in Santarém. This was his first victory in the race of the Portugal Class D cup (Deaf) dethroning the hegemony of Fábio Inácio who had won the previous evidence. noteworthy, which was also the winner of the half marathon to the general thus demonstrating the excellent shape and the fantastic work done by his coach Urbino Santos. With the end of the season at the door, lack only perform some evidence of regional.

José Afonso concluded the first time an Ironman race format. His debut was in the distance Iberman, last week, a proof that linked Spain to Portugal. Natural Montalegre and living in Braga, soon realized its limitations in short triathlons where the need for a strong swimming is essential. He began to opt for longer distances (olímpicos e Half-ironman) and he realized that this was the way. With excellent results in these formats, He enrolled in Iberman proof and began its preparation. The result was very positive debut which will lead to face with new eyes the distance.
Already done congratulations on the recent, complete an Ironman! How does it feel to finish this mythical race?
José Afonso: The feeling is very good, objective achieved! When we put ourselves before a challenge that only depends on us and we focus and prepare, if in the end we achieved always gives us great joy and satisfaction. Specifically Ironman, I think that (almost) all practitioners triathlon aspire one day to finish this race as it is the "test" mode and is seen as a personal development factor. We see cases of people who have never done sport and for various reasons decide to take the test, It is the same mythical.
How long did the specific preparation for this race?
AND: Specific preparation was short, It started in August; however there is a continuous work done with the US Elite all season that allowed me to prepare the exam in a short time. During the year 2013 I did two half-Ironman(May and July ), some Olympic triathlons and I think the training base was created, They were only more specific training for long distance. As it was a first time here it was not objective in terms of personal records or trying to do x or y; preparation for me was intended to end well the physical level without injury or falls and mental, perhaps the most important.
What proof moments that felt more difficulty?
AND: It was the race. In general because much of the route was not in tar, It seemed trail and also due to accumulated fatigue. The worst times were about the km 27 when we enter a pine forest where the path was often loose sand and the worst about the km 33 they had to run on the beach about 1.5-2km ... At this point of the race almost all athletes will "trapped by wires" and the fact that run on those floors make the effort to progress has to be much higher. Luckily I managed to get back to the rhythm that brought after leaving the beach.
When you enter the water to swim 3.8km, still night, and waiting for the starting gun, what goes through the head?
AND: Much anxiety.. but it is not only the starting gun. In the moments before she even decreases because first we are concerned to prepare the material in the transition park and then because we are surrounded by many people who are like us or maybe even worse. I usually try to think of what planned and see what I have to do next, I try to focus on me. In the days before it is believed much in evidence and how it will be, etc…
After you finish cycling 180km did you regard as the race 42km?
AND: It's a strange moment: on one hand we saw the bike full of strength and motivated, just do 180km and we think we are very well, We do not want to waste time and "just" missing the race; on the other hand it was well warned that the difficulties had not yet begun, we have to restrain tempers, make a few kms at low rates to accustom the body to the effort that is coming. The Urbino had told me that "the Ironman starts in the race", that was the way I faced and I can say now that I was not wrong at all.
You made a total of 11h17.32 not bad for a first, porém came to you last 3km run against uns bons places you finished. It was the worst 3km ride of your life?
AND: As mentioned above the part of the beach was the worst part of the race for me, almost could not run and therefore lost some places. The worst km of my life were not these, were few kms on the arrow in Mizarela 2010 in the Ultra Trail Serra da Freita. But these moments are also important since there are signs that the body gives us and teach us how to better manage stress, You must learn to control them; I think that's what did it when I left the beach back to normal. If some passed me is because they were stronger, in these things there is no luck or bad luck.
It will be a distance to the future or the training time required hangs a bit this possibility?
AND: I think so, physically I have more aptitude for long distances compared with shorter events where it is needed more speed rather than strength; the fact that cycling these tests be done without drafting also favors me. Looking at my last check I have gotten consistent results the half-Ironman level which leads me to think you can also get the same results in the Ironman ... the only drawback is the long time needed to prepare these tests, although I like to train may be incompatible with the professional and personal life.
What your goals for 2014?
AND: The objectives for 2014 They pass above all for continuing to play sports. I hope to start with the trail Sicó February, proof that I like to do. In triathlons help team Tribraga the evidence of the national club championship and try a good rating in the tests of the individual national championship triathlon Long. With this new Ironman variable may try a second appearance elsewhere with more specific objectives in terms of end times. If you still have legs towards the end of the year would make the 5th time the marathon of Porto ...

José Nuno Ferreira is one of the most eclectic athletes US Elite Sports Agency. Triathlon, ski mountaineering and trail are your passions and who lived in the latter was another great adventure. Athlete of Braga was present in one of the most emblematic world competitions. O Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB) is an evidence trail held in the Alps with a distance of 168km and almost 20km of accumulated gap. The mecca of the trail is a great challenge to the physical capacity of athletes. Preparation, difficulties and feelings will be described in this interview.
When you realized that you wanted to do the UTMB 2013?
JF: After riding a few years to go hiking in Geres, and already training triathlon, I came up the idea of doing the same routes running. In September 2007 I saw a summary of evidence on Eurosport and the great Marc Olmo, um italiano by 53 year old, to win it. From there the data were released. To try to compete for enrollment UTMB had to raise points and ended up doing the Crossing Cavalls del Vent , a route located in the Sierra de Cadi / Moixeró (Catalonia), about 100km and 6000metros (positive gap). In 2008 my application was drawn and in August 2008 was the only Portuguese starting in Chamonix and the third in the history of the competition (which had its first edition in 2004).
How was your preparation and how many months were specifically trained?
JF: The preparation was somewhat troubled because in February this year, dislocated his left shoulder in World Cup Ski-Mountaineering. Had nearly a month recovering, ie, just do muscle building exercises on the left shoulder and the return to training was done very slowly to not have surprises. We were already scarce 4 and a half months of proof.
The injury you had at the World Cup ski mountaineering delayed the preparation, felt it would not be possible to run the best conditions?
JF: I had some difficulties because I started running even with weaknesses in the shoulder and ended up developing a small compensation problem in left leg. During the month of April I got many questions from my participation, because the leg pain came and went, but after making the Ultra Trail of the Roman Geira an average of almost 10km / h, I tried to remain calm and continue with training and physiotherapy.
What an athlete feels the night before, when you lie down and think: "I will do 168km running on Mont Blanc with a cumulative gap of 19 200 meters "?
JF: Was somewhat anxious because it was the third time that would participate this time and did not want to fail. In editing 2008 had given to 120 km e em 2010 the proof was canceled to 30 km due to bad weather conditions. But this time, due to the increasing experience gained by other evidence from 2008 and a more specific preparation, was mentally fit and eager to make a great journey and overcome this psychological barrier of 120km.
What were your expectations for the race?
JF: Had designed to prove in 33 or 34 hours. I managed to make the hourly average forecast up to 30km, but due to some vicissitudes of this kind of evidence I was forced to rethink the pace in order to finish.
What were your best and worst moments of proof?
JF: No doubt the 40 / 45km were decisive. I started having some stomach problems that led me to greatly reduce the race pace and I ended up having to throw up to 60km. From here I walked about 30km tea and bread because I could not eat sugars or salt which influenced quite the caloric intake needed to go faster. Out this situation, walked animicamente always well-disposed, confident and motivated to complete this adventure.
You concluded the race in 43:06:56 414 in place between the senior male, was the idealized result?
JF: In fact the result was not the idealized. After gastric crisis and after spending my psychological barrier of 120km, I joined three Basque athletes. Our pace up to 145km made us believe we could finish the race with 38 a 39 hours. What is certain is that one of the fellow Basques had a strong inflammation of a tendon and patellar after a medical evaluation and a refuge some talk group decided to finish the race together. From the end of the 145km we had to walk almost always a step.
Can you describe the feeling when the goal after nearly cruzaste 2 race days?
JF: It's amazing imaginares you to enter one of the most mythical villages of the Alps, as is Chamonix, full of fans of trail and mountain sports, cheering you into a frenzy like you're the first athlete to cross the line. It is simply superb.
What are the goals of the next sports season?
JF: I have yet to mature next season and I'll have to talk first with my trainer (Urbino Saints). I am a person with various sporting passions and I find myself torn between the Ski-Mountaineering, the Trail and Triathlon. Obviously the fact they were unable to devote myself exclusively to one back "losses" in terms of performances more relevant but I love new challenges.
Enjoyed participating in the European Championship of Ski Mountaineering in- 2014, em to be held for Andorra. Regarding Trail, liked to take a test that has me walking to pursue will some time which is the Ultra Trail Andorra. Regarding triathlon, I try to help my team Tribraga, as much as possible, but fortunately, the evolution of our athletes have been quite large and the weight of my performance in the team is smaller, which leads me to think of devoting myself only to triathlons to mountain biking and triathlons for longer distances.
